CalSERVE COMMUNITY CALL TO ACTION!!!

JOIN UAW 2865’s RALLY TODAY ON SPROUL at 12pm!!!

UC Berkeley Graduate Students and Undergraduate Tutors STRIKE Against Intimidation:

This week, graduate students and undergraduate tutors on all UC campuses will be going on strike to protest UC management’s unfair labor practices.  At Berkeley, the strike will take place on Wednesday April 2, and Thursday April 3.

Please join the picket lines each day at Bancroft and Telegraph, any time between 8am and 6pm.  On Wednesday at noon, please join the mass rally at Sproul!

Undergraduate student support is critical to the success of the strike.

The strike is in response to the UC administration’s unfair labor practices (ULPs).  The student workers’ union filed ULP charges this winter in response to UC management’s refusal to negotiate over GSI/student ratios, a mandatory topic of bargaining. Since the strike was announced a few weeks ago, the UC negotiators have begun to discuss the issue of class sizes, but they have yet to make a formal proposal at the bargaining table. GSI/student ratios impact both the quality of undergraduate education and the working conditions of graduate students.

The strike is also a response to UC administrators’ repeated attempts last fall to suppress student workers’ rights to free speech and collective action, including in the lead-up to AFSCME 3299’s strike last November. These acts attempt to silence graduate students and undergrad tutors and keep them from advocating for better terms of employment and for a more just and accessible university.

The teaching conditions of our GSIs and Tutors are our learning conditions.  We can support our instructors on Wednesday and Thursday by joining the pickets and coming to the noon rally at Sproul on Wednesday.
