Mahana Barbadillo is a second year pursuing Public Health with a minor in Public Policy. As a proud member of the LGBTQ community, Mahana Barbadillo currently serves as the Internal Affairs Coordinator of the Queer Alliance Resource Center* (QARC), Vice President of Out in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics* (oSTEM), and a member of Young Leaders for Empowerment, Advocacy, and Diversity*. He has also served as the former Co-Community Service Chair of the Queer Straight Alliance* (QSA) and a volunteer at the Gay Men’s Health Collective* (Berkeley Free Clinic). Coming from Lanai City, Hawaii, Cal has also allowed Mahana to further pursue my passions for music and musical theatre, including performances with the grammy award-winning University Chorus* and the University Summer Symphony*. As a senator, Mahana plans to unify the queer community behind a common cause, improve campus climate, and better integrate the arts into the broader Berkeley community. Through student government Mahana is determined to empower students and foster progressive change.

Kirk ”Cool Kid” Coleman (#183)

Kirk Coleman has worked to understand current institutionalized obstacles at this University and implement creative solutions to such issues that will ultimately yield a safer, more progressive, and more accessible campus. He has spent significant time in ASUC spaces as a Senate Intern for Former ASUC Senator* Stephan Montouth*, a Campaign Intern* for Current Senator Kevin Williams*, and as a Stakeholder* and voter representing the Recruitment and Retention Centers* for the Lower Sproul redevelopment project, which accounted for student space relocation from Eshelman Hall. Furthermore, he has worked closely with the Multicultural Community on Campus as the Executive Director of the Black Recruitment and Retention Center*, part of the Bridges Multicultural Coalition*. Besides more political activities, Kirk is also currently a Unit 1 Resident Assistant*, and the Vice-President of the Black Pre-Law Society* on campus. This experience has equipped him with a breadth of knowledge and a network with which to facilitate an optimal amount of change on this campus.

Marisa ”Moves Like” Columbus (#173)

Prior to transferring to Cal, Marisa Columbus served as an ASU Senator* at Fullerton Community College. This was an experience that taught her what it meant to represent the voice for the student body and be a strong advocate for student rights. Having gathered numerous students together in solidarity, she has seen the profound impact students  have upon legislation by making their presence known and their concerns heard. As she continues to help lead and organize marches against increased tuition fees, Marisa hopes to empower others to be leaders of change in the fight to make education affordable and accessible for all. It is her goal to work with other fellow transfer students and all students on campus to bring awareness to the problems we face in higher education. Students will be the ones to bring both restoration and new changes to our education. Marisa plans not only to be a liaison between the student body and ASUC, but to function as an intercom for student voices to be heard.

Akshay ”Kung” Dugar (#181)

Akshay Dugar is a second year intended Economics major and public policy minor. He is from Bangalore, India and is the current co captain of the squash team. He has been involved in the Greek*, Cooperative*, South Asian* and International* communities and is particularly interested in increasing cross community learning and engagement within our campus. Akshay is inspired by the Indian freedom fighters that united the country in its struggle against colonialism, despite the barriers of language and culture that existed between individuals from different parts of the country. Akshay intends to work in the U.S for a few years after graduating from Berkeley before eventually going back to the country that has given him so much.

Devonte ”Work It” Jackson (#177)

Devonte Jackson is a second year intended Political Science Major from San Lorenzo, CA. He is a proud son of a single-parent mother, brother of five beautiful sisters, and an activist for social justice. He currently works at the Fitness and Calling Center* at Cal to support my educational endeavors. His experience as a low-income student of color has inspired him to organize to make higher education accessible and affordable for all students. As a previous Cal Band* trombonist, Campus Organizing Director for State Affairs*, CALPIRG campaign coordinator*, and a student worker, he plans to enhance civic engagement and lobbying efforts in order to increase access and affordability for higher education. Sidronio ”Sid The Kid” Jacobo (#179)

Sidronio, also know was Sid, is currently a second year, Latin American Studies and Social Welfare double major, education minor. Sidronio’s involvement in the RAZA community has been to own his life experiences. Growing up in Pico Union, a neighborhood that is an over populated arrival point for Mexican and Central American immigrants has molded his dreams and aspirations.  As a proud member of the RAZA community, he currently serve as the General Director for Senator Diaz-Blanco* and RAZA Caucus Co-Facilitator from the Chican@/Latin@ Student Development Center*. Klein Lieu is a fourth-year Cognitive Science undergraduate running for ASUC Senate. He is from Oakland, CA, and is currently a student in the Disabled Students Program*. As a Young People For Fellow*, he created online software called IMAGINE: Integrating Math And Gaming In a New Environment, software aimed at tackling the unequal access to education at his old high school through an online gaming platform. Megan ”Environment” Majd (#182)

Megan Majd is a second year Society and Environment Major and Public Policy Minor from Los Angeles, CA. Megan started her student and community-organizing during her freshman year. Since then, she has been elected to the State Board and the Executive Committee for CALPIRG (California Public Interest Research Group)*. During her freshman year she was the grassroots coordinator for a campaign to lower low air pollution rates in low-income communities in Oakland. And in 2011 Megan successfully coordinated a campaign to ban single-use plastic bags in Alameda County. Currently, Megan is the sustainability chair* of her sorority, Delta Gamma*, and is one of the internal coordinators of ECO*, a forum for environmental clubs and organizations. This coming year, Megan will be a candidate for Senate in hopes of prioritizing Environmental Issues as a campus community.

Support Megan “Environment” Majd for ASUC Senate!

Nolan Pack (#174)

Nolan Pack is a transfer student with a long history of creating positive change through student government. At Pasadena City College, Nolan worked tirelessly to raise awareness about environmental and social issues by serving as the student government’s first Sustainability Chair*. As a result of his work, sustainability has been included in the College’s Educational Master Plan and the student government’s Constitution and By-Laws. As a student at U.C. Berkeley, Nolan continues to deliver results through involvement with the ASUC Sustainability Team* and the Chancellor’s Advisory Committee on Sustainability*, and currently serves as the Co-Director of Sustainability* in the ASUC External Affairs Vice President’s office*. Deejay ”Got Us Fallin’ In Love” Pepito (#184)

Donna-Jo Pepito, usually known as DeeJay, is a second year with a major in Social Welfare and a minor in Public Policy. She will be representing the Pilipin@ community. As Director of External Relations for the Pilipino Academic Student Services*, she spearheaded a fundraising effort that collected over $1000 for the organization. As Student Spaces Director for the ASUC Office of the Executive Vice President*, she coordinated and communicated with over 200 student groups housed in Eshleman throughout the Lower Sproul Redevelopment process and worked with the architects from Noll & Tam in developing the temporary spaces that student groups will occupy while Lower Sproul is getting redeveloped.

Daley ”All Day, Everyday” Vertiz (#180)

Daley Vertiz is a 3rd year Business Administration major and Education minor at UC Berkeley. As a proud member of the RAZA community, Daley currently serves as President of the Latin@ Business Student Association (LBSA)*. He also previously served under Viola Tang’s AAVP administration as Public Relations Director and as an intern for the Bridges Multicultural Resource Center. Daley’s work on campus has largely centered on academic guidance facilitating student transition onto campus, as well as ensuring access to professional development resources for students of all academic backgrounds. Lastly, Daley has also worked to create a more inclusive environment at the Haas School of Business by co-founding the Haas Outreach Program serving underrepresented students of color applying to Haas, as well as being a member of the Diversity Director Selection Committee.
